The coat of arms of Äpfingen is a white horse on a red background and a six-pointed star. The interpretation is open, but the horse gives an indication of agriculture or horse breeding. The star is believed to be a so-called filler, i.e. a gap filler. In terms of color, the coat of arms depicts the colors of the Lords of Essendorf .

In 1920 there was an aesthetic change in color. On June 7, 1956, the current form of the coat of arms was determined.

history

The documented history of the village of Äpfingen begins with a first mention around the year 1228. The place was named as " Aephingen ". In 1255 an " Affpingen " is noted. Places ending in " -ingen " are usually assigned to the earliest Alemannic settlement period, around the year 300 AD. The first settlements are suspected in the area of the Saubach . It is certain that a Berthold von Äpfingen had a fiefdom of two farms as a local nobleman in 1255. He received this fief from Count Hartmann von Grüningen , who donated this property to the Heggbach monastery. The Lords of Würzburg also had property in Äpfingen, which in 1287 went to the Salem Imperial Abbey . The Imperial Abbey of Salem received the church of St. Blasius and the associated bailiwick rights in 1469, as well as blood jurisdiction in 1606 and combined the places Äpfingen, Altheim and Schemmerberg to form the Schemmerberg rule . Due to the secularization , Äpfingen fell in 1803 with the rule of Schemmerberg to the imperial principality of Buchau of the princes of Thurn and Taxis . In 1806, the municipality of Äpfingen came to the Kingdom of Württemberg through mediation and was assigned to the Oberamt Biberach . 1)

On January 1, 1975, Äpfingen was incorporated into Maselheim.
