Brochenzell is a district of the Baden-Württemberg community of Meckenbeuren in the Lake Constance district .
history
Brochenzell was first mentioned under its former name Eigileswilare (Eigelsweiler) in a trade document from April 1, 861 (issued by Ludwig II. ). Brochenzell is thus the oldest residence in the municipality of Meckenbeuren. As is usual in the region, the name Eigileswilare is likely to have been derived from its founder, in this case with a high degree of probability from a man named Eigilo . According to the document, Eigelsweiler and the church became the property of the St. Gallen Monastery . The place is known as cellula Eigelsweiler. When it came to the destruction of the monastery cell is not exactly documented, since the village was not mentioned until the 13th century; it must have happened between 1246 (mention of Zell) and 1274 (diu gebrocchen Gelle) . The name Brochenzell (broken cell) was first mentioned on November 13, 1274. Until then, the area belonged to the Counts of Heiligenberg , who, under Berthold von Heiligenberg, sold the Brochenzell rule on May 25, 1277 to his uncle Hugo von Werdenberg . The name Brobhentel is also listed in the title deed . On May 20, 1401, the Werdenbergers sold to Konrad Ruh, a citizen of Constance . Later the agreement was reversed by the king and the rule Brochenzell went to Hans von Hewen. Soon after, Count Wilhelm IV of Montfort bought them . In 1447 his son Hugo had to cede the rule to the Humpis because of financial problems . When these also became impoverished, they gradually gave Brochenzell to the Weingarten monastery until 1721 . At the beginning of the 18th century Brochenzell changed hands several times ( House Nassau , Austria and Württemberg ) until the new municipality of Ettenkirch came in 1823 . In 1937 it was incorporated into the municipality of Meckenbeuren.
place
Brochenzell has always been shaped by Roman Catholicism . The church of St. James the Elder is located in the center of the village next to the Humpis Castle and the Eugen Bolz primary school . Next to the school is the Humpishalle, which is used for school and club sports as well as for events such as the community festival. There is also a kindergarten . The natural border to Meckenbeuren is the Schussen .
