It is about one kilometer east of Meckenbeuren and two kilometers north of Tettnang .

history

Not only the relative size and the ring-shaped ground plan of the place, but above all the field name Burgbühl mentioned in 1715 could be an indication that Obermeckenbeuren had its own local nobility in the early Middle Ages . However, there is no evidence of this.

The manor in Obermeckenbeuren was fragmented in the Middle Ages. Since 1371 the Ravensburger citizen Hans Isenbach acquired possessions: 1371 a farm from the Lindauer Wilhelm von Laimnau, 1374 half a tithe as a Waldburg fief from Konrad Naster, 1382 another tithe from Kunz Wolfegger. Hans Isenbach, descendant of the Lords of Isenbach (Eisenbach), lived in Obermeckenbeuren in 1436 and 1447. The Buchhorn Hospital and the Lords of Wolfurt also owned Obermeckenbeuren. The Wolfurtsche Maierhof (first mentioned in 1398) went to the Lindau Hospital in 1405 with the Gießen Castle . The Waldburg fiefs came into the possession of the Counts of Montfort in 1527, ownership of them passed from Waldburg to Austria in 1785. In 1805 Obermeckenbeuren, like Tettnang and Meckenbeuren, came to Bavaria, and in 1810 to Württemberg. Since then, the place has belonged to the mayor's office or municipality of (Unter-) Meckenbeuren. In 1515 there were 19 houses in Obermeckenbeuren.

Population development

The population remained almost constant between 1789 (141) and 1910 (142); In 1938 154 people were counted.

religion

Chapel of Mary Queen of Peace

Obermeckenbeuren has always been shaped by Roman Catholicism , like many other places in Upper Swabia. Obermeckenbeuren used to belong to the catholic parish of St. Gallus Tettnang, but for many years it has belonged to the catholic parish of St. Maria from the Perpetual Help of Meckenbeuren.

The local residents sealed their piety with the construction of a chapel between 1981 and 1983. The chapel was built on the former church path in the direction of Fünfehrlen on the site of a centuries-old village cross. As early as 1913 when the former chapel in (Unter-) Meckenbeuren was demolished and had to give way to the current parish church, the people of Obermeckenbeuren tried to acquire this place of worship and to move it. On May 8, 1983, a new chapel was inaugurated by the Rottenburg bishop Georg Moser . On Sunday, August 4th 2013, the Maria Queen of Peace Chapel celebrated its 30th anniversary with a service in the chapel.

Culture

Hops and fruit have been grown in Obermeckenbeuren for a long time , and some cattle are still being farmed. The center of the village is the Maria Queen of Peace chapel on the slightly elevated eastern edge of the village.
