Neukirch is a municipality in Baden-Württemberg in the Lake Constance district , around eight kilometers east of Tettnang .

Location and neighboring communities

Neukirch is located in a hilly forest and cultural landscape interrupted by small lakes and ponds north of the Argen river .

It borders in the west and southwest on the area of the city of Tettnang (Bodenseekreis), in the south on the municipality of Achberg , in the east on the city of Wangen im Allgäu and in the north on the municipality of Bodnegg (all district of Ravensburg ).

Neukirch includes the villages of Goppertsweiler and Wildpoltsweiler, the hamlets of Bernried, Blumegg, Elmenau, Gunzenweiler, Hinteressach, Litzelmannshof, Matzenweiler, Oberlangensee , Oberrussenried, Summerau, Uhetsweiler, Unterlangensee , Unterrussenried, Vorderessach and Wittenberg as well as the courtyards of Aberlingsbühl, Bechaumenhütten , Flunau, Hinterburg, Landolz, Neuhaus, Reisenbronn, Sackweiher, Schnaidt, Vorderburg and Zannau.

Protected areas

history

Unlike many other places in the Lake Constance region, nothing is known of an early settlement here. The first clearly documented settlement (837) at this point is the Kirchort Schönenberg. The Free Bernhardus from Bernried was a Ministerialer of the Counts of Veringen in 1172 in what was then Argengau . Some other districts emerged much later, some not until the 18th century.

In the Middle Ages, the area belonged to the County of Tettnang and for a long time to the dominion of the Counts of Montfort . With the decline of this family in the late 18th century it fell to Upper Austria , with the Peace of Pressburg then to Bavaria and in 1810, under the influence of Napoléon Bonaparte , to Württemberg .

The ruins of Ebersberg Castle are located about 3100 meters north of Neukirch .

Economy and Infrastructure

Around a fifth of Neukirch's residents still make a living from agriculture today . This is the highest proportion among all parishes in the district.

The residents of the community mainly work in medium-sized businesses in the vicinity or commute to one of the larger cities in the vicinity such as Ravensburg or Friedrichshafen.

The first and second stages of the Jubiläumsweg , a 111-kilometer hiking trail that was signposted in 1998 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Lake Constance district, end in the center of the village . It leads over six stages through the hinterland of the lake, from Kressbronn via Neukirch, Meckenbeuren , Markdorf , Heiligenberg and Owingen to Überlingen .

Path of faith

The pastoral care unit Argental , an amalgamation of the Catholic parishes of Goppertsweiler , Hiltensweiler , Krumbach , Laimnau , Neukirch, Obereisenbach , Tannau and Wildpoltsweiler , created a path of faith in the respective places for its tenth anniversary in 2010. Large natural stones have been set up at four of the nine stations in Neukirch and the surrounding hamlets. A plaque with the logo of the pastoral care unit and a saying or verse is attached to each of these stones . The distance is around 4.7 kilometers.

The "Hexenhäusle" designed by the artist Melchior Setz can be found in the Hinteressach district . It's privately owned.

Sonnenhalde wildlife park

In the district of Tettnang-Wildpoltsweiler, a circular route of 2.5 km leads past enclosures with wild boars, mouflons, fallow and red deer and domestic animals. Small animals are also kept at the playground, there is a forest labyrinth and pony rides. A special feature is the water supply via one of the few functional hydraulic rams in Germany , which bridges a height difference of 50 m with a pipe length of 700 m.
