history

The castle was built by the Lords of Ebersberg and mentioned in 1153. Around 1430 the castle was owned by the Weißenau monastery .

Conrad v. In 1463 Stein von Reichenstein sold the castle and mountain Ebersberg to Count Ulrich V von Montfort . The castle complex with the mill, which was operated by the outflow from the Ebersberger Weiher , with the associated courtyards was then sold to the Weißenau monastery in 1468 . The facilities were later abandoned and fell into disrepair. The foundation walls and surrounding walls of a rectangular castle square are still preserved from the former castle complex on the steep cone of the Drumlin . In the northwest corner, a square stump of the wall suggests a possibly tower-like structure.

The 45-meter high terminal moraine cone on which the castle was built is now part of the five-hectare landscape protection area "Ebersberg mit Mahlweiher" (terminal moraine cone with Mahlweiher), which was designated in 1954, and below the cone is the " Ebersberger Weiher " nature reserve .

At the moment (August 2016) the ruin is closed due to the risk of collapse.
