Altraderach Castle

The Altraderach Castle , also Castrum in Radray , Old Castle or Heideschlosschen called one's Outbound castle in the range between Unterraderach and Raderach . The Burgstall, which is still clearly visible, is located in the Kluftern district of the city of Friedrichshafen in the Lake Constance district in Baden-Württemberg .

history

The castle was built in the 12th century by the Lords of Raderach, first mentioned in 1160 with Werner von Raderach, who attests to the handover of his own people to the monastery of St. Blasien , On March 14, 1280, Count Manegold von Nellenburg promises the Bishop of Constance In exchange for 150  marks of silver, to free the castrum in Radray , which he had bought from Wernher von Roderach and received as a fief from King Rudolf , from this fiefdom and to hand it over as property to the Bishopric of Constance . From this the castle was later abandoned.

description

Castle stable with moat and western rampart

The core area of the castle is about 20 by 21 meters. It is surrounded by a ring moat , which can still be seen today , which is delimited from the outside by a wall rib. On the steep eastern side of the slope, the ring trench merges directly into the slope, on the other sides remains of a rampart can still be seen. The flat north side of the complex is protected by a high rampart and a ditch about 2.5 meters deep, which is pierced at the northwest corner of the complex, apparently a (probably younger) entrance was between this corner and the western wall rib. On the western side the wall is significantly lower, but still clearly visible, on the south side it has slipped to a terrace with a slight elevation.

The local tradition settles the story of Rosa von Tannenburg here - the old castle corresponds to the Tannenburg - and the also demolished new castle (Fichtenburg) in Raderach. As a result, there is a Fichtenburgstrasse in Raderach and a Tannenburgstrasse in the closer Unterraderach.
