Baitenhausen Castle
Creation time : Mentioned in 1169
Castle type : Hilltop castle
Conservation status: departed
Place: Meersburg - Baitenhausen - "Schlossberg"

The castle Baitenhausen is an Outbound hilltop castle on the "Schlossberg" in the district Baitenhausen the city Meersburg in Bodenseekreis ( Baden-Wuerttemberg ).

The castle, which cannot be precisely located and cannot be reliably identified, was possibly on the "Schlossbühl" near the pilgrimage chapel Maria zum Berge Karmel . The priest Heinrich von Bettinhusen was mentioned in 1169, but the addition of his name only partially indicates the existence of a castle. Another local nobility is mentioned around 1200 with Herbort von Baitenhausen. The Baitenhausen relatives were probably relatives of the Reichenau ministerials from Steckborn ( Canton Thurgau ). Before 1274 Hiltpolt von Steckborn sold the castle and accessories to the Bishop of Constance . In the 14th and 15th centuries, the episcopal court was pledged several times.
