Baitenhausen is a district of Meersburg in the district of Lake Constance in Baden-Württemberg with a pilgrimage church.

geography

The district of Baitenhausen is four kilometers northeast of Meersburger Oberstadt on the northeast slope of a mountain at 440  m above sea level. NHN , about the same height as the upper old town of Meersburg, which is on the south side directly on Lake Constance .

history

Baitenhausen was formerly called Bethenhausen, then Baydenhausen. In 1169 priest Heinrich von Bettinhusen was mentioned. In 1506 rights and duties were established for the place. On August 21, 1641, Baitenhausen was sacked by the Hohentwielers during the Swedish War. In 1703 the French requisitioned horses on the march and levied a contribution. In 1802 the village fell to Baden . In the middle of the 19th century Baitenhausen had 10 citizens and 76 residents. The branches of business were agriculture, animal husbandry and forest management.

On February 1, 1972, the Baitenhausen community was incorporated into the city of Meersburg. When Baitenhausen still belonged to the Überlingen district at that time, the population of Baitenhausen was 174 in 1961 and 157 in 1970.

On January 1, 1973 the district of Überlingen was dissolved, whereby Baitenhausen became part of the newly formed Lake Constance district.
