Ettenkirch was first mentioned in a document in 1274. The place belonged to the Austrian bailiwick of Swabia early on and became part of Württemberg in 1805 . The place then formed the municipality of Eggenweiler with Oberteuringen , but in 1823 it became an independent municipality within the Tettnang District Office . In 1937 the hamlet of Brochenzell was separated from the municipality and incorporated into the neighboring municipality of Meckenbeuren . In return, Ettenkirch received the dissolved Hirschlatt community. In the course of the municipal reorganization of Baden-Württemberg , the municipality of Ettenkirch was incorporated into the city of Friedrichshafen on December 1, 1972.
