Donaurieden is a district of Erbach in the Alb-Donau district in Baden-Württemberg . The mayor is Alexander Niedermaier.

history

Donaurieden was first mentioned in a document from Reichenau Monastery from 1337 as "Riedin". In the following years the place changed hands several times. From 1620 the place was owned by the barons of Ulm zu Erbach until 1805.

Around 1870 the Danube was straightened, thereby gaining arable and pasture land. In the 1920s, the Donaustetten power station was built, which caused part of it to flood again.

Settlement areas have been created since 1966 and the population has increased to 700 people.

Donaurieden was incorporated into Erbach on July 1, 1974.

Culture and sights

The townscape is shaped by the Catholic Church of St. Michael. Due to the large food supply, the reservoirs have developed into a retreat for birds that can be viewed on circular hiking trails.

The Upper Swabian Way of St. James leads through the village from Ulm to Constance .
