coat of arms

An age-old tradition, perhaps it is just legend, can tell: When the pastor of Einsingen was once ordered to see his gracious mistress, the abbess of Söflingen, she asked him about his parishioners. The pastor, already an old gentleman, who had been preaching his little sheep from Einsingen for 30 years and therefore knew them well, replied with a sigh: "Oh my grace, you just don't want to give up your insubordination and quarrelsome behavior."

The abbess, a clever and sensible woman, gave the pastor the advice: "Let him paint the dove of peace on the arch of your church so that whenever you look at the altar, you will be reminded of peace."

On the way home, the pastor considered the words of the abbess and decided to put them into practice. When the church ceiling was redone and beautifully decorated with stucco soon after, in 1772, the pastor had the plasterer put a cartouche above the choir arch and placed a white dove of peace on a green three-hill on a red background. The people from Einsingen liked the picture so much that they had the pigeon attached to their well box in a cast iron plate, and even included it as a heraldic animal in their official seal. This is how the Einsinger got their coat of arms.
