Gögglingen-Donaustetten is a district of the independent city of Ulm and is located in its southwest.
geography
Gögglingen and Donaustetten are located southwest of Ulm on the southern bank of the Danube. Bundesstraße 30 runs to the east of the district .
history
Gögglingen was first mentioned in a document in 1092. It was connected to Ulm by a customs bridge. Gögglingen belonged to Wiblingen and fell in 1806 through Napoléon Bonaparte's reorganization, first to Bavaria and in 1810 to Württemberg .
Donaustetten was first mentioned in a document in 1194. It belonged to Wiblingen since the early Middle Ages and was subordinate to Count Fugger- Kirchberg. The Austrian rule gave it more freedom of movement in the 18th century. In 1806 Donaustetten fell to Bavaria and in 1810 to Württemberg. After the Battle of Elchingen , Napoleon Bonaparte is said to have visited the Gögglinger Gasthaus Ritter.
Since July 1, 1974, the two localities have belonged to the university town of Ulm.

Both former communities have a high degree of independence due to their local constitution. The head of both places is Eva-Maria Emmenecker.

In 1989 Gögglingen and Donaustetten merged and since then have had a joint local council.

Facilities and sights
In Donaustetten and Gögglingen there is a primary school, several kindergartens, a recycling center and a rubble dump, two volunteer fire brigades , two cemeteries, playgrounds and a post office. The localities are monitored by the police in Wiblingen. There are two parishes, the Holy Cross and the St. Laurentius.
Sights are the water tower between Donaustetten and Gögglingen, the four churches - two each in Donaustetten and Gögglingen, the Donaustetten hydropower station and the oxbow lake, also known as the old Danube.
In addition, a pair of storks nests in Gögglingen between the cemetery and the fire station in spring / summer , usually with numerous offspring.
