Ermingen is a district in the west of the city of Ulm .

The district, which is located on the Hochstrasse , has about 1100 inhabitants on an area of ​​837 hectares. The Ulm-Ermingen telecommunications tower is located in Ermingen .

history

On July 1, 1974, the previously independent municipality of Ermingen was incorporated into the city of Ulm, together with the towns of Donaustetten , Einsingen and Gögglingen.

Paleontological site

Turritellenkalk from the Ermingen Turritellenplatte

The sub-Miocene " Erminger Turritellenplatte ", which is characterized by its wealth of fossils, is located in the district of Ermingen . The massive occurrence of tower snails gave the site its name. The tower snail Turritella turris predominates in terms of quantity in the gastropod population. The shallow marine deposit near the coast was formed around 18.5 million years ago ( Lower Ottnangian ).
