Leimbach is a suburb of Riedheim , one of two localities in the town of Markdorf in the Lake Constance district in Baden-Württemberg , Germany .
geography
Geographical location
Leimbach is located in the Riedheim district south of the Gehrenberg , at the foot of which the Brunnisach, which flows through Leimbach, rises. The place is located around two kilometers east of the town center of Markdorf in rural areas. Neighboring towns are Hepbach in the east, Riedheim in the south, Bergheim in the southwest and Markdorf in the west.
Protected areas
South of the local area is the Leimbacher Ried, part of a formerly large low moor complex between Leimbach, Hepbach and Riedheim. The reed is part of the Hepbacher-Leimbacher Ried nature reserve with reed areas, remains of litter meadows and tall herbaceous areas. The area is grazed by Heck cattle and is known for its stork nests .
history
Leimbach was first mentioned as Lainbach in 1268 , when the Kreuzungen monastery acquired larger property from Konrad von Reute. In 1269 the Kelhof von Sankt Gallen was bought by Konrad von Ebersberg and transferred to that of Markdorf. Leimbach was probably an old Heiligenberg place.
The town of Markdorf belonged to the area of the Hochstift Konstanz . To the east of Markdorf ran the border to the county of Heiligenberg , which belonged to the lands of the princes of Fürstenberg . Between Markdorf and Leimbach there was a customs house on today's federal highway 33. The restaurant Zur Letze , built in the 1960s on the site of the Grenzgasthof built in 1628, still reminds of this today .
In the course of the secularization initiated by Napoleon , the land ownership of the Prince Bishopric of Constance on the right bank of the Rhine fell to the Margraviate of Baden in accordance with the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 , as did the neighboring county in 1805.
By decree of the Ministry of the Interior in Karlsruhe in 1924 it was ordered that the special demarcations of Gangenweiler , Hepbach, Leimbach and Stadel were to be repealed and united with Riedheim to form a community with the name Riedheim.
As part of the community reform , the formerly independent community of Riedheim was incorporated into the town of Markdorf with effect from March 1, 1972.
religion
Ecclesiastically Leimbach belonged to the parish of Oberteuringen until 1660 , since then to the parish of Bergheim.
Culture and sights
Buildings
- The Maria-Hilf-Chapel in Leimbach was made possible in 1875 by the foundation of three Leimbach citizens. Previously, the request for its own parish church in Leimbach had been rejected and instead the parish church in Bergheim was expanded. The small chapel has been renovated five times since then, most recently in 1968 and 2003. During the several months of renovation, the roof structure and ceiling were renewed, the paint was renewed inside and outside, weather protection was installed over the entrance door, the benches revised, new tiles laid and the altar with a statue of the Virgin Mary has been thoroughly revised. The sacred building, which is owned by the town of Markdorf, serves the local devotion to Mary.
