In a document, however, the place does not appear until 1327 as Riedhain ("swamp forest"). Riedheim, like the other districts, was probably first laid out in the High Middle Ages in the area of Oberteuringen . The place belonged to the county of Heiligenberg . From 1461 to 1560 Heiligenberg gave the Bailiwick of Riedheim to the Brendlin family in Markdorf.

During the mediatization in 1806 at the time of Napoleon, the House of Heiligenberg was disempowered, the Grafschaft Heiligenberg was dissolved and incorporated under Margrave Karl Friedrich Baden . The community of Riedheim came to Baden, but until 1842 it was directly subordinate to the Princely Fürstenberg Cathedral Administration in Heiligenberg. From 1813 Riedheim was assigned to the Meersburg district office. The Fürstenberg Office of Heiligenberg followed in 1824, the District Office of Meersburg in 1842 and the District Office of Überlingen in 1857 (from 1939 the Überlingen district ).

In 1924, a decree by the Baden Ministry of the Interior repealed the special markings of Gangenweiler, Hepbach, Leimbach and Stadel.

As part of the community reform , the community of Riedheim was incorporated into the town of Markdorf with effect from March 1, 1972.
