Stadel is a suburb of Riedheim , one of two localities in the town of Markdorf in the Lake Constance district in Baden-Württemberg , Germany .

geography

The small village of Stadel lies in the Riedheim district at the foot of the Gehrenberg .

The Stadel district encompassed 300 hectares (status: the special district was canceled in 1924).

history

In the district of Stadel, Karl Eduard Paulus marked a Roman road that, coming from Meersburg , led via Ittendorf and Bergheim on via Bavendorf to Ravensburg .

Stadel itself was first documented as Stadile in 1216 , when Friedrich II confirmed the donation of an estate by Heinrich von Bitzenhofen to the Wald monastery . The place name is derived from the Old High German word "stadal" (= barn). Local nobility lived here from 1246 to 1287, as evidenced by the field name "Burgreute".

Until 1803, Stadel was part of the Grafschaft Heiligenberg , which had been ruled by the Princes of Fürstenberg since the 16th century . Then the village came to the Grand Duchy of Baden .

From the 17th century there was a post office in Stadel with an associated tavern , it was abolished with the advent of rail traffic in 1853. The station was the easternmost point in the state of Baden on the border with Württemberg . Here alone, the post was stamped with "Stadel 134" for two years, a postmark that has become very rare today.

The Ministry of the Interior in Karlsruhe issued a decree in 1924 to cancel the special districts of Gangenweiler , Hepbach , Leimbach and Stadel and to unite them with Riedheim to form a community called Riedheim.

After the end of the Second World War , the administration of the French occupation zone built a border house in Stadel that only existed for a short time. The boundary stone to Oberteuringen is still preserved today.

In the course of the community reform , the formerly independent communities of Riedheim were incorporated into the town of Markdorf with effect from March 1, 1972.

religion

In church terms, Stadel belonged to the parish of Oberteuringen until 1837, then to the parish of Bergheim and from 1858 to the parish of Hepbach.

Residents

Stadel has 102 inhabitants (as of May 2015).

Attractions

  • The Catholic Wegkapelle on the road to Gangenweiler was built in the first half of the 19th century. The listed sacred building has a brick niche with a canopy. The equipment includes two octagonal columns, in the niche there is a colored wooden crucifix, which probably dates from the 18th century.

Economy and Infrastructure

The former livestock farming was more and more replaced by fruit growing, which still characterizes the place today.

Water supply

A curiosity arose during the water development. After numerous attempts by the community and private individuals had previously been unsuccessful, a dowser finally found the “Im Esch” spring.

traffic

The through traffic of Stadel is part of the federal highway 33 .
