Winterstettenstadt is a district of Ingoldingen in the Biberach district in Upper Swabia . Winterstettenstadt had city rights from 1243 to the 15th century .

description

The geographical location of Winterstettenstadt on a steep erosion wall of the Riss , when it broke through the terminal moraine arch , was a decisive criterion for the development of the Schenkenburg Winterstetten and the formerly independent medieval town. The already during the Carolingian period incurred settlements Seven Weiler and Siggenhaus are disposed of .

In 1243, after the death of the lord of the castle, Reichsschenk Konrad von Winterstetten , Winterstettenstadt was elevated to a town. Winterstettenstadt received blood jurisdiction and a weekly market in 1376. A well-known minstrel from this time is Schenk Ulrich von Winterstetten .

The small town complex, which is grouped around a market square, has the shape of a trapezoid . In the east at house no. 72 was the Biberacher Tor and in the west at house no. 45 was the Schussenried Gate, also known as the Upper Gate . The Biberacher Tor was demolished in 1846. There are sketches by the Biberach painter Eberhard Emminger of the Upper Gate, which was razed in 1842 . Behind house number 45 you can see the former city wall in the form of a moat slope.

After the castle fell into disrepair in the 15th century , the place lost its urban character. In 1692 Franz Antoni Rief from Wolfartsweiler, now part of Unterschwarzach , was elected mayor. In the next 30 years of his tenure, Rief tried to defend the city rights against the Waldburgers . Emperor Charles VI. settled the dispute in 1722. The city, always in the shadow of Biberach an der Riss , became increasingly insignificant. In 1806 Winterstettenstadt was incorporated into the Kingdom of Württemberg , converted into a village mayor's office and administered by the royal Oberamt Waldsee . In the course of the administrative reform it lost its status as an independent municipality on January 1, 1975 and was incorporated into Ingoldingen. The Ränkle building area was developed as early as 1969/70 . Together with Wiesenhölzle , the 45 houses built in it document the functional change in the village to a commuter residence .

Winterstettenstadt has a kindergarten and a branch of the Ingoldingen elementary school.

The Upper Swabian Jakobsweg and the Martinusweg run through Winterstettenstadt in the Rottenburg-Stuttgart diocese.
