Markus Eberhard Emminger (born October 21, 1808 in Biberach an der Riss ; † November 27, 1885 ibid) was a German lithographer and landscape painter .

Life

As a pupil at the Latin school, Emminger received art lessons from Johann Baptist Pflug until he moved to Stuttgart at the age of 13 . He received commercial training from the art publisher Georg Ebner , but also training as a reproduction engraver and drawing lessons . He developed the techniques of lithography self- taught . Already during his apprenticeship he was allowed to work independently. He then became a student of Johann Friedrich Dieterich , who later became the director of the Stuttgart Art School . During his time in Stuttgart he created numerous landscape paintings as well as history and genre paintings based on drawings by other artists.

In 1835 Emminger moved to Munich , then traveled through Italy for a year , after which he continued to study for another year at the art academy in Munich in 1836 . In 1837 he finished his training in Stuttgart with a very successful examination.

Although now married, Emminger led a restless wandering life afterwards: he drew on the Rhine and traveled all over southern Germany to Vienna and Italy. From 1854 he lived with his family in Munich. After the death of his son and his wife, he moved back to Stuttgart in 1873 and finally moved to his hometown of Biberach in 1878, where he died seven years later.
