Environmental award from the Federal Environment Foundation
The German Environment Prize , also the Environment Prize of the Federal Environment Foundation , has been awarded annually since 1993 by the German Federal Environment Foundation (DBU). At 500,000 euros , it is the most valuable environmental award in Europe.
The award is given to "dedication and performance that contribute decisively and in an exemplary manner to the protection and preservation of our environment now and in the future".
Selection criteria
The following criteria characterize the main idea of the award:
- The excellent performance should primarily serve as a role model for other people, companies and organizations.
- The performance to be awarded should help to identify environmental problems in good time and to defuse them with the help of suitable preventive and implementation strategies.
- The merits should be so convincing that an imitation effect is achieved. Accordingly, the model character and practical feasibility should be in the foreground.
- Innovative, networked holistic solution approaches are particularly taken into account. In doing so, cooperation-creating services with an interdisciplinary character are given priority.
