Peter Hennicke

Peter Hennicke (born January 18, 1942 ) is a German economist and university professor. Until January 31, 2008 he was President of the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy in the Science Center North Rhine-Westphalia.

Life

Peter Hennicke studied economics and chemistry at the University of Heidelberg . As a research assistant at the Universities of Osnabrück and Heidelberg , he dealt with research and teaching of economic and development theories and also with economic and energy policy . In his activities as a consultant for fundamental questions of energy policy in the Hessian Ministry for Environment and Energy and in the corporate planning of a regional utility company, Hennicke gained practical experience in the implementation and application-related further development of energy management concepts.

From 1988 to 1992 he was a professor at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences . Hennicke was a long-time member of the board of the Freiburg Öko-Institut eV - Institute for Applied Ecology .

Between 1987 and 1994, Hennicke was a member of the Bundestag's Enquete Commissions on Prevention and Protection of the Earth's Atmosphere .

At the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy , he became director of the energy department in the Science Center North Rhine-Westphalia in 1992.

From 2000 to 2002 he was a member of the Enquete Commission of the Bundestag Sustainable Energy Supply under the Conditions of Globalization and Liberalization .

On November 1, 2000, Hennicke succeeded Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker as Acting President of the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy. In 2003 he was appointed President of the Institute.

In March 2014 he was accepted into the global think tank Club of Rome . Also in 2014 he was awarded the Environment Prize of the Federal Environment Foundation.
