Wulkow (also Wulkow bei Boossen ) is a place in the Märkisch-Oderland district in Brandenburg and has been part of the city of Lebus since December 31, 2001 .

history

In 1353 Wulkow was first mentioned as Wolkowe . The place name is of Wendish origin and means wolf . A baroque manor ensemble forms the town center. In 1474 Wulkow came into the possession of the von Pfuel family . Feudal lord Joachim Erdmann von Burgsdorff , governor of Lebus, took over the place in 1676. He had the village church built in 1687 and the crypt house in 1695. In 1882 the Schulz family bought the Wulkow manor and owned it until 1945.

In 1992 Wulkow became a model community for ecological village development in Brandenburg. The place is the winner of the Federal Environment Prize and was a decentralized project of EXPO 2000 . The Domespace (often called "UFO"), built on the edge of the village, is the focus of the project and the title of publications from the region and is currently used for tourism. Part of the project is also the Wulkow eco storage facility , a storage facility converted according to ecological criteria , in which an eco market takes place on the weekends, but which is also used for exhibitions and other cultural events.
