Hermann Auernhammer

Hermann Auerhammer (* 23. August 1941 in White Castle in Bavaria ) is an emeritus professor of engineering in crop production and landscaping . He is considered to be one of the pioneers of modern agricultural technology and precision farming .

Auernhammer completed an agricultural apprenticeship and worked as an assistant and agricultural builder, followed by attending the vocational school and the engineering school for agriculture. Later he studied agriculture at the Technical University of Munich in Freising - Weihenstephan . This was followed by a pedagogical supplementary course for higher teaching qualifications at vocational schools.

He began his scientific career in 1971 as a research assistant at the Institute for Agricultural Engineering at the Technical University of Munich in Weihenstephan. In 1975 he received his doctorate ; In 1990 the habilitation followed . From 1996 to 2007 he was professor for technology in crop production and landscape management.

In 2001 Auernhammer received the Federal Environment Prize from the German Federal Environment Foundation . The reason for the award states:

“His work on the standardization of electronic communication in agricultural engineering is of particular importance. With the lead development of the Agricultural BUS System (LBS) and the use of Global Positioning Systems (GPS), he developed important foundations for precision farming . "
