Wolfgang Feist (* 1954 ) is a German physicist and building physicist . He heads the he founded the Passive House Institute in Darmstadt and is considered a pioneer of passive house - energy standards for buildings .

Life

Feist studied physics at the University of Tübingen from 1973 to 1981 . He wrote his thesis in solid state quantum mechanics . From 1981 to 1985 he was a research associate and lecturer at the University of Kassel and was involved in setting up the advanced training course in energy technology . In the following ten years he was a research assistant at the Institute for Living and Environment (IWU) in Darmstadt, where he set up the energy department. The topic of his work at that time was research and development on low-energy houses in Germany. During this time he completed guest research stays at the Institute for Structural Design of Lund University and was head of the research project Passive House in Darmstadt Kranichstein . In 1992 he received his doctorate in the Department of Architecture at the University of Kassel with a focus on thermal building simulation.

In 1996 Feist founded the Passive House Institute in Darmstadt. He is the scientific director of the low-cost passive house working group and the European demonstration project CEPHEUS . Since March 1, 2008, Wolfgang Feist has been a university professor for structural engineering, building physics and building technology at the University of Innsbruck .

He is married and has two sons.
