After five years of elementary school, Oswald first attended the high school for boys and from 1947 the humanistic grammar school in Miltenberg until he graduated from high school in the summer of 1950.

After studying electrical engineering at the TH Karlsruhe (today Karlsruhe Institute of Technology ) and his first professional years at Siemens in Nuremberg , Oswald initially worked in research. From 1959 to 1961 he worked at the Max Planck Institute for Physics in Munich, whose director at the time was Werner Heisenberg . From there, he moved to the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching for nine years as head of the magnetic field technology department , which gave him stays at MIT , Princeton University , Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Los Alamos, as well as in European research institutes such as CERN and made possible in Oxford .

In 1970 he took over the management of his parents' family business OSWALD Elektromotoren GmbH in Miltenberg, which continuously invested in research into magnetic field technology for high-energy physics and superconductivity , bringing together research institutes from Germany, America and Russia. His special commitment was the development of superconducting electric motors.
