Angelika Zahrnt (born June 26, 1944 in Köslin ) is a German economist and systems analyst . From 1998 to 2007 she was chairwoman of the Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany (BUND).

Life

Angelika Zahrnt studied economics in Heidelberg , Vienna and Innsbruck from 1963 to 1968 . In 1973 she completed her doctorate in this field in Heidelberg. Further training to become a systems analyst followed . After that she was u. a. Worked for Siemens AG , the Munich city ​​administration and the regional planning department in the Hessian State Chancellery .

In the 1970s she became a member of the BUND. From 1986 to 1989 she was the spokesperson for the BUND specialist working group “Finances and Economics”. From 1990 she was initially deputy chairwoman of the BUND, and in 1998 she succeeded the longstanding chairman Hubert Weinzierl . After handing over the chairmanship to Hubert Weiger in December 2007 , she was appointed honorary chairman of the BUND in 2008.

From 1992 to 2010 Angelika Zahrnt was BUND's representative on the ZDF TV Council and from 2004 she was deputy chairwoman. From 2001 to 2013 she was a member of the Council for Sustainable Development (RNE), and from 2001 to 2011 a member of the strategy advisory board “Social-ecological research” at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research . She is a member of various advisory committees, for example the investment committee of the Ökovision sustainability fund on the scientific advisory board of the rating agency oekom-Research and on the advisory board of the research project "Natural Capital Germany - TEEB DE" at the Leipzig Environmental Research Center (UFZ) and a fellow at the Institute for Ecological Economic Research (IÖW) .

The two sustainability studies "Sustainable Germany " from 1996 and 2008 as well as the ecological tax reform (eco tax) are among the main initiatives of the ecological economist . In 2010 she published the growth-critical book Postwachstumsgesellschaft together with Irmi Seidl . In 2013, together with Uwe Schneidewind , she published the book “So that a good life becomes easier. Perspectives of a sufficiency policy ”. For several years she has been working as a freelance speaker and promoting her ideas of a “sufficiency policy”. She calls for overcoming the pressure to grow and is seen as a social reformist , liberal representative of the growth-critical movement .

In the spring of 2017, Angelika Zahrnt started an initiative together with Klaus Töpfer and Ralf-Uwe Beck to set up a study commission “Causes of Flight” at the German Bundestag. The appeal was signed by more than 150 bearers of the Federal Cross of Merit. The demand was included in the coalition agreement between the CDU, CSU and SPD in 2018. On July 3, 2019, the Federal Cabinet set up a “Causes of Flight” expert commission and appointed 24 members. The start of work was set for October 2, 2019.

Angelika Zahrnt is the mother of two children and married.

Honors

In 2006 Angelika Zahrnt received the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon, in 2014 the Federal Cross of Merit 1st class. In 2009 she was the winner of the Environmental Prize of the Federal Environment Foundation . In the same year she was also awarded the Baden-Württemberg honorary title of professor .
