Uwe Schneidewind (born July 8, 1966 in Porz near Cologne ) is a German economist . Until 2020, Schneidewind, who is counted among the most influential economists in Germany, was President of the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy in Wuppertal . Schneidewind is currently running as a candidate from the CDU and Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen for the office of Lord Mayor in Wuppertal.

Education and professional career

Uwe Schneidewind studied business administration at the University of Cologne from 1986 to 1991 . After working for the management consultancy Roland Berger Strategy Consultants , he moved to the University of St. Gallen , where he received his doctorate (1995) and habilitation (1998) at the Institute for Economics and Ecology . In 1998 he was appointed professor for production management and the environment at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg . From 2004 to 2008 he was president of this university.

From March 1, 2010 to April 30, 2020, Schneidewind was President and Scientific Director of the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy in Wuppertal . He took over the management as the successor to Peter Hennicke . Schneidewind holds a professorship for "Innovation Management and Sustainability" at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal .

Political and social engagement

Schneidewind has been a member of the Club of Rome since 2011 . He is also a board member of the Association for Ecological Economic Research (VÖW). From 2013 to February 2020 he was a member of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU).

Schneidewind is a member of the scientific advisory board of the Federation for Environment and Nature Conservation Germany . Schneidewind is still chairman of the Chamber for Sustainable Development of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) . From 2011 to 2017 he was a member of the Presidium of the German Evangelical Church Congress .

Schneidewind was the Scientific Director of the Johannes Rau Research Foundation (JRF) from 2014 to 2020 .

On February 7, 2020, Schneidewind was nominated by the CDU Wuppertal and Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen Wuppertal for the office of Lord Mayor of Wuppertal. The election will take place on September 13, 2020. Schneidewind is a member of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen.
