Frank Collison (born February 14, 1950 in Evanston , Illinois , USA ) is an American theater and film actor . One of his best-known roles is that of telegraphist Horace Bing in the series Dr. Quinn - a passionate doctor .

biography

Early life

Frank Collison was born in Evanston, Illinois on February 14, 1950, to Peg, a publicist, director, and English teacher, and John Collison, a speech therapist , actor, and writer. Collison began his career at The Tent Theater in Granville , Ohio as a six-month-old mascot. As an adolescent, he starred in a number of plays in Virginia and Ohio, where his mother directed. He also assisted his father on his one-man Abraham Lincoln show. In addition, his father was chosen to play the role of Lincoln in the centenary celebrations of Lincoln's first inauguration in Washington, DC , with Frank playing the young Tad Lincoln.

Acting career

Collison trained at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco and received his bachelor's degree in acting from San Francisco State University . He then helped set up a summer theater company in the Sierra Nevada and later went to the University of California at San Diego , where he did his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in acting. Between his positions as an actor he worked as a substitute teacher, diaper service dispatcher and forest firefighter.

He has appeared in over 150 productions in regional theaters in California , Boston and Denver . His theater roles varied from Jacob Marley in A Christmas Carol to Miss Havisham in Great Expectations to Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream . Collison is a founding member of the Pacific Resident Theater in Venice , California, which has won over 25 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards . From 1993 to 1998 he played the telegraph operator Horace Bing in the series Dr. Quinn - a passionate doctor .

Private life

Collison lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Laura Gardner, an actress, and their three children.
