geography

history

The place Wald was important around 1000 as the burial place of the bailiffs of the Reichenau monastery . Later the place was probably connected with the castle Königsegg (today to Guggenhausen ).

On January 4, 1083, the nobles Hezelo and Hesso founded a monastery in Heratskirch in honor of St. George , of whom they owned relics . At the same time, Hezelo gave the village of Wald (Königseggwald) under the protection of Count Mangold von Alshausen , so that he could place the monastery in it under the Apostolic See. Hezelo planned to build the monastery in Upper Swabia , but the Hirsau abbot Wilhelm (1069-1091) insisted on relocating the foundation in order to largely withdraw the new monastery from secular influence. Finally they agreed on a place in the Black Forest as a place for the foundation of the monastery: Kloster Sankt Georgen in the Black Forest .

Around 1174 the place came under the control of the ministerial family of the Lords of Fronhofen , who later named themselves after the Königsegg castle. In 1311 they acquired the place as their property, in 1681 the family of Königsegg-Aulendorf, who had meanwhile risen to become imperial counts, moved their residence from the family castle to Königseggwald. Due to the mediation due to the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss , the area came to the Kingdom of Württemberg at the beginning of the 19th century , where it was assigned to the Oberamt Saulgau , the later district of the same name . When the district was dissolved in 1973, Königseggwald came to the Ravensburg district.

Culture and sights

Buildings

Königseggwald Castle
  • Castle of the Counts of Königsegg , built on the site of a previous medieval building from 1765–1770 with the advice of the French architect Pierre Michel d'Ixnard
  • Catholic parish church of St. Georg , built in 1481 (late Gothic)
  • Former Franciscan convent . Convent building from 1711 (today used as the archive of the Count's House in Königsegg-Aulendorf, rent and forest office and for residential purposes)

Economy and Infrastructure

Established businesses

Around 1820, a count's brewery was founded in Königseggwald , which, after being taken over by Fridolin Härle from 1900 to 2003 , traded as the Härle brewery (not to be confused with the Clemens Härle brewery , a brother of Fridolin Härle in Leutkirch or the Gräflich run by another brother Königsegg'schen Brewery in Aulendorf). From 2002 to 2003 the brewery was saved from closure by a citizens 'initiative, renamed Königsegger WalderBräu AG and since then has been extensively modernized on the basis of "citizens' shares" (registered shares with restricted transferability), the dividends of which are paid in beer. Former master brewer was Martin Härle, a great-grandson of Fridolin Härle.
