Baindt is an Upper Swabian municipality in the Ravensburg district of Baden-Württemberg in Germany .

The name is derived from biunta, ahd. "Around what the fence winds around" (= closed farmland or garden).

The municipality, which is part of the Mittleres Schussental municipal administration association and covers an area of ​​23.07 km², has around 5,000 inhabitants.

geography

Baindt is part of the “Mittleres Schussental ” settlement area , which extends from Eschach , a southern district of Ravensburg, through the two cities of Ravensburg and Weingarten to Baienfurt and Baindt in the north. It is located a few kilometers west of the Altdorf Forest on a small north-eastern tributary of the Schussen , which is a northern Lake Constance or Rhine tributary.

In the municipality of Baindts there are two nature reserves : the Annaberg , on the border to Baienfurt, and the Schenkenwald in the Schussental, on the border to Fronreute. (As of May 1, 2010)

History up to the 19th century

Baindt was first mentioned in a document in 1240 in connection with the foundation of the local Cistercian monastery by Konrad von Winterstetten . The monastery was dissolved in 1802 and the area came to the Württemberg Oberamt Ravensburg in 1806 , the forerunner of today's district of the same name . In 1826 Baindt became its own municipality, the current borders date from 1848.

In Baindt there is a Roman Catholic church, the St. Johannes Baptist Church . The parish of Baienfurt-Baindt is responsible for the spiritual care of the Protestant part of the population .

The council consists of Mayor Rürup as chairwoman and 14 councilors. The election of May 25, 2019 resulted in the following:

Buildings

  • Parish Church of St. Johannes Baptist (built 1240–1241), former abbey and monastery church of the Cistercian Sisters of Baindt Patronage of the Assumption (August 15). 1560 Gothic reticulated vault. 1675, 1724–1729, 1742 and 1764 Baroque changes to the abbey church and the monastery (1729 construction of the guest house, 1764–1766 high altar - Baroque- Rococo ). In 1817 the former abbey church of the Cistercians became the parish church of Baindt Patronage of St. John the Baptist - St. John the Baptist (June 24th).

  • The music association Baindt organizes the annual village festival around the summer solstice. It is celebrated from Saturday to Monday in the school yard under the arcades.
  • Every year in August, the Baindt riding club organizes its riding tournament with dressage and jumping competitions.
  • Another highlight is the annual wine festival, which takes place in late July and early August.
  • The Raspler fool's guild maintains the Swabian-Alemannic carnival . The fool call of the Rasplers is: "Raspler - Ratsch Ratsch". Every two years there is a fool's leap.
