Economy and Infrastructure
The main source of income for the citizens of Aitrach was, in addition to agriculture, the timber trade and the Iller rafting . At some times every other man was a raftsman . The imperial customs privileges from 1397, which were granted to the noble house of Königsegg as the owner of Marstetten Castle, are the earliest mention of the Iller rafting. The imperial ownership rights to the rafting business were later transferred to the Waldburg-Zeil aristocratic family . With the decline of rafting , the first industrialization began. Mills settled here and gravel and stone mining gained in importance, gravel for the railroad was in great demand. After the Second World War , the structural change from a poor rafting and farming village to a community that is largely shaped by craft and industry continued.
