Location of the district of Wangen in Baden-Württemberg | ||
The district of Wangen was a district in Baden-Württemberg , which was dissolved in the course of the district reform on January 1, 1973 .
geography
location
The district of Wangen was in the southeast of Baden-Württemberg . Geographically, it was essentially identical to the so-called "Württembergische Allgäu ".
Neighboring areas
Its neighboring districts were clockwise beginning in 1972 in the northeast of Memmingen , Kempten (Allgäu) and Lindau (Lake Constance) in Bavaria and Tettnang , Ravensburg and Biberach in Baden-Württemberg.
In addition, until 1968 it bordered in the southwest on Achberg , which belonged as an exclave to the district of Sigmaringen and only then was incorporated into the district of Wangen.
history
Before 1800, the area of the district of Wangen belonged to a large number of lordships, including front Austria and the imperial cities of Wangen im Allgäu , Leutkirch im Allgäu and Isny im Allgäu . Between 1805 and 1810 the area became part of the Kingdom of Württemberg . In what was later to become the district of Wangens, the Leutkirch , Waldsee and Wangen authorities were formed, which belonged to the Landvogtei on Lake Constance and from 1818 to the Danube district . In 1924 the Danube District was dissolved. In 1934 the upper offices were renamed to districts and in 1938 the districts of Leutkirch i. A. and Waldsee dissolved. The area of the district of Leutkirch and some communities in the district of Waldsee came to the district of Wangen, the other communities of the district of Waldsee came to the districts of Biberach and Ravensburg . Some communities in the Leutkirch district also came to the Ravensburg district.
After the Second World War, the district of Wangen became part of the new federal state of Württemberg-Hohenzollern and, after the regional reorganization in 1952, became part of Baden-Württemberg in the southwest . After that he belonged to the administrative district of Südwürttemberg-Hohenzollern . On January 1, 1969, the Achberg community moved from the Sigmaringen district to the Wangen district.
With effect from January 1, 1973, the district of Wangen was dissolved. In protest of the population, his area was assigned to the enlarged district of Ravensburg , which became the legal successor to the district of Wangen.
On November 19, 2019, the Ravensburger Kreistag approved the reintroduction of the old flat share number. In its meeting, 29 district councilors voted in favor of the motion. 21 councils spoke out against the old license plates, five district councils abstained. The Federal Ministry of Transport has meanwhile approved the application to reintroduce the old WG, ÜB and SLG license plates in the Ravensburg district.

On March 7, 1968, the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg set the course for a community reform . With the law to strengthen the administrative power of smaller municipalities , it was possible for smaller municipalities to voluntarily unite to form larger municipalities. The beginning in the district of Wangen was made on July 1, 1971 by the Altmannshofen community, which merged with the Aichstetten community . In the period that followed, the number of communities steadily decreased until the district of Wangen was finally dissolved on January 1, 1973.
The largest municipality in the district was the district town of Wangen im Allgäu . The smallest community was Siggen.
In the table, the municipalities of the district of Wangen are before the municipal reform. Today all communities belong to the Ravensburg district . The population figures refer to the census results in 1961 and 1970.
