history

In 1178, Rohrdorf Castle on Adelegg is mentioned, which fell into disrepair around 1200 and was divided up. The women's convent of the Isny Benedictine Abbey was relocated to the Rohrdorf Benedictine convent, which existed with the parish church until the 15th century.

The parish church is called St. Germanus in 1187, around 1500 it was rebuilt and consecrated as St. Remigius and Cyriakus, in 1736 the tower was added and the entire church was given a baroque style . Since 1595 the place belonged to the county Waldburg-Zeil-Trauchburg .

In 1806 Rohrdorf became part of the Kingdom of Württemberg . There it belonged to the Oberamt Wangen, formed in 1810 . On July 1, 1972, the formerly independent municipality of Rohrdorf was incorporated into the city of Isny. Mayor in 2011 was Prince Alexander von Quadt .

The ecclesiastical community is part of the Allgäu-Oberschwaben deanery in the Rottenburg-Stuttgart diocese .

coat of arms

Based on a coat of arms from 1504 in the calendar of the Rohrdorf parish, which shows two silver swords in a red shield, the municipal administration added this coat of arms to its official seal after 1930 . Because of the equality with the coat of arms of the municipality of Zipplingen in the district of Aalen , the Rohrdorf municipality coat of arms was provided with an additional small label as a mark and on December 10, 1958 the Ministry of the Interior re-awarded it together with the flag colors white and red.

Since the Rohrdorf parish church was incorporated into Isny Monastery from 1189 to 1803 , the two swords, as symbols of martyrs, probably refer to St. George as patron of the Isny monastery and St. Cyriacus as the local patron saint of the Rohrdorf parish church.

The little St. George's shield with the red cross added as a symbol is taken from the coat of arms of the Isny monastery.

Silver and red are also the colors in the heart shield of the princes of Quadt zu Wykradt and Isny, who, as legal successors of the Isny monastery, also took over the patronage rights of the Rohrdorf parish church from 1803.

education

Rohrdorf has the following facilities:

  • Kindergarten: 30 kindergarten places
  • Elementary school: grades 1 to 4, instrumental class

Adelegg

Rohrdorf is located directly on the Adelegg . It is about a 10 by 12 km large, wooded hilly landscape between Kempten and Isny , in Bavaria and in Baden-Württemberg . It is considered to be its own small low mountain range and at the same time the northernmost foothills of the Allgäu Alps. In the middle are the remote hamlets of Kreuzthal, which belong to Buchenberg, and Eisenbach, which belongs to Rohrdorf. The highest elevations of the Adelegg are just over 1100 meters, including the Schwarze Rat with a lookout tower (district Großholzleute ). The glassmaking village of Schmidsfelden is located in the northwest . In the north are the Kürnachtal and the Wolfsberg.

Numerous easy forest hiking trails lead through Adelegg, a beautiful one goes from Eschach to Kreuzthal.

Adelegg was settled late, until the 17th century only hunters and shepherds roamed the deep forests. Only then did the woodcutters come, and with them the glassmakers. They often cleared the Adelegg radically and settled on the slopes. The Schmidsfelden glassmaker's museum village with the glassmaker Michaelis is the core of the tourist revitalization of Adelegg. The Glasmacherweg was added later.
