Hauerz is a district of the city of Bad Wurzach in the Ravensburg district . The place with 1130 inhabitants is located at 650 m above sea level in a small valley on the Sendener Bach, eight kilometers northeast of the core town of Bad Wurzach.

history

Where the church of St. Martinus stands today, there was probably a watchtower, a "high lookout", already in Roman times. The name Huward (Hauerz) is probably derived from this.

This name was first mentioned in 1126 when the Rot an der Rot monastery was founded . In 1525 the farmers from Hauerz played a key role in the destruction of Marstetten Castle, which has not been rebuilt to this day . In 1665, the Zeil lordship had a large bathing establishment built near the mineral spring in Hauerz, which attracted a lot of visitors until 1830. The traditional “bathroom order” from around 1750 is an interesting cultural and moral history document. The bath house was on the property of today's Gasthaus Adler.

Buildings

St. Martin

The towering steeple of the Martinskirche dates from around 1350 , 42 m high and 7 m wide. It contains three bells from 1572, 1684 and 1719. In 1567 the second church was built in the Gothic style. When this became too small, it was replaced in 1908 by the current church in the splendid neo-Romanesque style. The ecclesiastical community is part of the Allgäu-Oberschwaben deanery in the Rottenburg-Stuttgart diocese . The place has had an outdoor pool with swimmers' pool, children's pool and kiosk since 1972 .
