About this picture

The Tettnang district, Friedrichshafen district from 1938 to 1945 , was a district in Baden-Württemberg that was dissolved as part of the district reform on January 1, 1973 .

geography

location

The district of Tettnang was in the south-east of Baden-Württemberg . Geographically, he had a share in the foreland of Lake Constance.

Neighboring areas

Its neighbors were in 1972 in a clockwise direction, starting in the west of Überlingen , Ravensburg , Wangen and the Bavarian district of Lindau (Lake Constance) . In the south, Lake Constance formed the natural border.

In addition, until December 31, 1968, it bordered between the districts of Wangen and Lindau (Lake Constance) on the exclave of Achberg , which belonged to the district of Sigmaringen .

history

Before 1800, the area of the district of Tettnang belonged predominantly to Upper Austria and was assigned to the Tettnang District Office. In 1805 the area came to the Kingdom of Bavaria and in 1810 to the Kingdom of Württemberg , which continued the Tettnang Office . From 1810 the Oberamt Tettnang belonged to the Landvogtei on Lake Constance and from 1818 to the Danube District , which was dissolved in 1924. In 1934 the Oberamt was renamed the Tettnang District.

On October 1, 1938, with the final district boundaries, the Friedrichshafen district with district administration in Friedrichshafen was formed, and the Schomburg community was ceded to the Wangen district .

After the Second World War, the district was renamed the Tettnang district and the district administration was moved back to Tettnang . The district initially belonged to the new federal state of Württemberg-Hohenzollern and, after the regional reorganization in 1952, to Baden-Württemberg and there to the administrative district of Südwürttemberg-Hohenzollern .

With effect from January 1, 1973, the Tettnang district was dissolved. Its area was combined with most of the neighboring, formerly Baden district of Überlingen to form the new Lake Constance district , which became the legal successor to the Tettnang district. Friedrichshafen became the seat of the new district .

coat of arms

The coat of arms of the Tettnang district showed a three-lap red flag in silver over a wavy blue shield base. The coat of arms was awarded on November 18, 1957 by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior .

The flag stands for the Counts of Montfort from the house of the Count Palatine of Tübingen, whose territory also included the Tettnang district. The wave bar is supposed to symbolize Lake Constance.

Economy and Infrastructure

traffic

There was no federal motorway running through the district . Therefore, it was only made accessible by federal highways 30 , 31 , 33 and 467 as well as several state and district roads.

Communities

From 1938 on, 13 municipalities initially belonged to the Tettnang district, two of them towns.

On March 7, 1968, the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg set the course for a community reform . With the law to strengthen the administrative power of smaller municipalities , it was possible for smaller municipalities to voluntarily unite to form larger municipalities. The beginning in the district of Tettnang was made on December 1, 1971 by the municipality of Ailingen, which merged with the city of Friedrichshafen . In the period that followed, the number of municipalities decreased steadily until the Tettnang district was dissolved on January 1, 1973.

The largest municipality in the district was the city of Friedrichshafen, which has been a major district town since April 1, 1956 . The smallest community was Ettenkirch.

In the table, the towns and municipalities of the Tettnang district are before the municipal reform. Today all communities belong to the Bodenseekreis . The population figures refer to the census results in 1961 and 1970.
