Prince Erich Chapel
The Fürst-Erich-Kapelle is a chapel near Marstetten in the municipality of Aitrach in the Ravensburg district in Upper Swabia . It is intended to commemorate the accidental death of Erich von Waldburg-Zeil , then head of the Waldburg-Zeil family , on May 24, 1953 , and is owned by the Princely House.
description
The plain and simple chapel is located in the Marstetten district , west of the Leutkirch – Memmingen railway line and the L 260 to Mooshausen , approx. 300 m north of the Marstetten castle ruins , at the end of the wooden sticks in a mixed forest area .
The blueprint for the building was drawn up shortly after Prince Erich von Waldburg-Zeil's fatal accident in 1953 by Karl Duke Gero von Urach . In the same year the chapel was completed and was inaugurated on October 30, 1953 by the Ottobeurer Abbot Vitalis Maier . It is geosted with a round, not drawn in choir . The cantilevered gable roof of the chapel is covered with wooden shingles and has a roof turret with an onion hood , in which there is a bell. It stands on a foundation with a surrounding drainage . You enter the chapel through an open wrought iron grille with a door. There are four knee benches in the chapel and a cafeteria on the western wall , above which is a fresco by an unknown fresco artist. The initials " IHS ", the abbreviation of the name of Jesus in Greek letters, are attached to the cafeteria .
fresco
The fresco above the cafeteria shows a group of Mounts of Olives. Jesus prays on the night before his crucifixion together with his disciples Simon Peter , John and James in the garden of Gethsemane . In the background of the fresco you can see a large city with partially destroyed buildings. The three disciples are shown sleeping. At the bottom of the fresco it says: “One watches” and underneath it “Father, not mine, but yours be done” ( Lk 22:42). Jesus kneels in the midst of his sleeping disciples. His hands are raised. A person in a blue robe rises above the city with pointing gestures, in front of whose chest a golden goblet hovers. To the right of Jesus, between a mosque and a temple on one side and a church on the other, a head with two horns with a pentagram between them appears . In front of the city gates lie the insignia of the emperor and pope with scepter and crown, key and tiara .
The chapel belongs to the ensemble of four chapels in the municipality of Aitrach.

A memorial plaque is attached to the eastern outer end of the face on which it says:
