Karl Gero of Urach

Karl Gero Herzog von Urach , Count of Württemberg (born August 19, 1899 in Lichtenstein ; † August 15, 1981 ibid) was head of the Urach family , a branch line of the Württemberg house , since his father's death on March 24, 1928 .

Life

Karl Gero, Prince of Urach, was born as the son of Wilhelm (II.) Duke of Urach, Count of Württemberg and Duchess Amalie in Bavaria at Lichtenstein Castle . He attended the Karls-Gymnasium in Stuttgart and graduated from high school there . He then joined the Württemberg Army and became a lieutenant in 1917. In 1918 he suffered a serious wound in the First World War. Wilhelm Kohlhaas described the experiences of the young Prince Karl Gero von Urach at the front in the novel The Chief and the Republic . After the war Karl Gero Fürst von Urach studied architecture and worked as an architect in Munich. During his studies, he became a member of the fraternity Academic Society Sonderbund in Stuttgart. In 1928 he became head of the House of Urach and has since performed under the name of Duke of Urach in accordance with the tradition of his house . From 1935 he served in the Wehrmacht as a captain , from 1940 as a major . During the Second World War he was a welfare officer in Ulm .

Karl Gero Herzog von Urach married on June 20, 1940 in Zeil Gabriele Countess von Waldburg-Zeil (1910-2005), a daughter of Prince Georg von Waldburg zu Zeil-Trauchburg and Wurzach . The marriage remained childless. Karl Gero von Urach died on August 15, 1981 at Lichtenstein Castle. He found his final resting place in the Großengstingen cemetery .
