Wilhelm Kohlhaas (born April 19, 1899 in Waiblingen , † February 19, 1995 in Stuttgart ) was a German officer, judge, author and historian.

Life

As the son of the internist Max Kohlhaas d. Ä. Wilhelm Kohlhaas attended the Karls-Gymnasium Stuttgart . After graduating from high school , he registered as a volunteer in the Württemberg Army in 1916 . As a flag junior he was assigned to the Grenadier Regiment "Queen Olga" (1st Württembergisches) No. 119 . Seriously wounded as a lieutenant , he lived through the last weeks of the First World War at home. After the Armistice of Compiègne he joined the Württemberg security forces . In the spring of 1919 he joined the “Haas” volunteer department and took part in the suppression of the Augsburg and Munich Soviets . In the summer of 1919 he was an orderly officer at the Eastern Border Guard in the Poznan Uprising .

He then studied law at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . On January 16, 1920 he became active in the Corps Rhenania Tübingen . After 14 racket games inactivated on October 13, 1920 , he moved to the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . There he also joined the Corps Isaria . 1925 doctorate he in Tübingen Dr. iur. After he had passed the assessor examination in the same year , he was accepted into the Württemberg judicial service. He was a local judge in Biberach an der Riss and from November 1928 a public prosecutor in Stuttgart .

After the NSDAP won the Reichstag elections in spring 1933 , he was relieved of his post as judge and public prosecutor because he had opposed National Socialism . He went to Berlin as the first director of the Prussian class lottery . Kohlhaas joined the NSDAP in 1938. In 1939 he became government director at the Reich debt administration . After the start of World War II , he served as captain of the militia in the defense department of the High Command of the Wehrmacht . He was deployed in France , Italy , North Africa and Iraq ( Special Staff F ). As a major in the reserve , he was transferred to the staff of the Army Territory in Southern France in 1942 . At the end of the war he contributed to the fact that his then place of residence Neuhausen auf den Fildern was protected from senseless defense and reprisals by the victorious powers.

He returned from French captivity in May 1947 . In the arbitration chamber proceedings he was classified as a follower. From 1948 to 1960 he worked in the Württemberg financial administration. First he worked for two years in asset control in Tübingen. He then took on a leading position at the Staatliche Toto-Lotto GmbH Baden-Württemberg . The consequences of his injuries forced him to retire from his post as government director in 1960 .

As early as the 1930s, Kohlhaas came out with literary and historical publications. In his long retirement he increased this commitment. He is considered an important connoisseur of the history of the city of Stuttgart , the history of the state of Württemberg and military history . In the 1950s he led the officer comradeship of the Grenadier Regiment "Queen Olga". He was involved in the Swabian Heimatbund and the Swabian Alb Association . From 1924 to 1929 he was editor of the Rhenanenzeitung. From 1952 to 1954 he sat on the board of directors of his Tübingen corps.

With his first wife Ruth geb. Bächer from Wuppertal he had two daughters. His second wife Elisabeth b. Kärcher from Neuhausen a. d. F. gave him a son and a daughter. Max Kohlhaas was a brother.
