Blumegg Castle

The castle Blumegg is the ruins of a hilltop castle on 630  m above sea level. NN near the Blumegg district of the city of Stühlingen in the Waldshut district in Baden-Württemberg .

The castle lies on an isolated rock needle on the edge of the limestone walls of the lowest of the Wutach gorges , the Wutachfluchten , which begin at Blumberg - Achdorf . A nearby free rock tower is called Lunzistein or bridal rock , around which a legend also entwines .

The castle was probably built by the lords of Blumegg , a sideline of the lords of Blumberg , in the 10th century, and it was first mentioned in 1292. That document mentions a Heinricus in Blumenegge. In 1417 Blumegg Castle was still referred to as "Castle", and in 1420 as "Burgstall". Small remains of the wall are still preserved from the castle.
