The Allard P1 (also Allard 3.6-liter Saloon ) is a two-door, five-seat sports sedan that was built by the British company Allard from 1949 to 1952.

The cars have a side-controlled V8 engine from the Ford Pilot with 3622 cm³ displacement (bore × stroke = 77.79 mm × 96.25 mm), which has a compression ratio of 6.1: 1 and is equipped with a Ford carburetor. It develops 85 bhp (62.5 kW) at 3500 rpm. The three-speed transmission also comes from this car. The drive design simplifies the search for workshops and spare parts in the USA, the most important export market for British automobile manufacturers in the 1950s.

A car that was tested by the British magazine The Autocar in 1949 reached a top speed of 135.37 km / h and accelerated from 0 to 100 km / h in 23.4 seconds. The determined gasoline consumption was 17 l / 100 km. The test car cost £ 1277 including taxes.

The front wheels were individually suspended and supported with coil springs. The driven rear wheels were attached to a rigid axle that was attached to a transverse leaf spring. The wheelbase was 2845 mm, the front / rear track 1473 mm.

The car's windshield was hinged at the top and could be opened by a lever mechanism in the middle, which is unusual for a vehicle built after World War II . The interior showed the attention to detail of the designer and offered good storage options, e.g. B. a shelf under the dashboard and pockets that use the full thickness of the doors. In addition to the choke, the controls included a hand throttle with screw adjustment and a switch for the engine compartment lighting.

A ventilation / heating combination - unusual at the time - was available as standard in the export model and as an optional extra in the model for the home market.

Racing history

In 1952 a P1 driven by Sydney Allard himself and Guy Warburton won the Monte Carlo Rally . Tom Lush was the passenger.
