The Allard V8 is an open sports car manufactured by the British Allard Motor Company Ltd. built from 1937 and which could also be used in motorsport . These were the manufacturer's first cars, which were not produced in series, but only on customer request.
The car was equipped with the side-steered V8 engine of the Ford V8 model 01A / 02A , which was also built in Great Britain. It had a displacement of 3622 cm³ (bore × stroke = 77.79 mm × 95.26 mm) and made 85 bhp (62.5 kW) with a compression of 6.1: 1 and 3800 rpm. The cars reached a top speed of 152 km / h.
The front wheels were individually suspended from a transverse leaf spring. The driven rear rigid axle was also attached to a transverse leaf spring. The wheelbase was 2540 mm, the front and rear track 1422 mm.
Together with the more powerfully powered sister model V12 , which was offered from 1938, twelve units were built by 1939, including nine with the V8 engine. Versions ranging from the lightened “Special” for trial / off -road sport to the elegant four-seater sports tourer were available. Allard obtained the superstructures for this series from the external bodybuilders Whittingham & Mitchel , Coachcraft and Ranalah .
In 1939 production was stopped due to the war . From 1946 a successor was built with the J1 , this time in series.
