Gallus Oehem gives Martin von Weissenburg the chronicle of Reichenau: Freiburg manuscript

Martin von Weißenburg (* around 1470; † October 8, 1508 on the island of Reichenau ) was a master's degree , lord of the convent and abbot of the Reichenau monastery and came from the family of the barons of Krenkingen .

Life

Martin von Weißenburg was the 58th abbot of the Reichenau monastery from 1491 to 1508. He came from the Krenkinger family, who later named themselves after the Weißenburg . He gave his goods to his cousin Jakob von Rüssegg from the family of the Lords von Reussegg bei Sins , Herr zu Roggenbach , Krenkingen and Weißenburg in return for the payment of 20 gold guilders a year. In his 15-year rule, probably on his behalf, the chaplain Gallus Oehem wrote him to underthenigists and liked the Chronicle of Reichenau .

He had the following written on his tombstone:

TUORUM PROGENITORUM ASPICE ARMA,
UBI MODO MILITENT, CORDE RECOGITA;
IBIS POST EOS NESCIUS AD TUMULUM
SEPELIENTUR TECUM CASSIS ET SCUTUM.

Translated very loosely according to Rüeger:

The arms of the parents are mine,
all of whom have now fallen asleep;
Where you are now, that is what I want, in
which I am supposed to follow,
And for this also into the grave,
and am scraped with shield and helmet.
