Henry Nicoll

Henry Nicoll (born October 23, 1812 in New York City , † November 28, 1879 there ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1847 and 1849 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Henry Nicoll was born and raised in New York City about four months after the outbreak of the British-American War . He graduated from Columbia College (now Columbia University ) in 1830 . Nicoll studied law and began practicing law in New York City in 1835 after receiving his license to practice law. In 1847 he took part as a delegate to the New York Constituent Assembly . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . In the congressional elections of 1846 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the third constituency of New York , where he succeeded William S. Miller on March 4, 1847 . He retired from the after March 3, 1849 Congress of. He then resumed his practice as a lawyer. He died in New York City on November 28, 1879 and was buried in the Mastic Family Cemetery.
