Jonathan Ward (politician)
Jonathan Ward (born September 21, 1768 in Eastchester , New York Province, † September 28, 1842 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1815 and 1817 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Jonathan Ward grew up during the British colonial era and received limited schooling. In 1791 he worked as an assessor in Eastchester. Between 1802 and 1806 he was a sheriff in Westchester County . He then sat in the New York Senate in 1807 . Two years later he was a member of the Council of Appointment . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson . In the congressional elections of 1814 Ward was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of New York , where he succeeded Peter Denoyelles on March 4, 1815 . Since he on a run again in 1816 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1817 Congress of. He then took part in the New York Constituent Assembly in 1821 . Between 1828 and 1840 he was guardianship and probate judge ( surrogate ) in Westchester County. He died in Eastchester on September 28, 1842.
