Haworthia monticola is a species of the genus Haworthia in the subfamily of the Affodil family (Asphodeloideae).

description

Haworthia monticola has no trunk and sprouts. The 30 to 40 elongated lanceolate leaves have inwardly curved tips and form a rosette with a diameter of 2 to 4 centimeters. The leaf blade is 2 to 6 inches long. There are often translucent points on the leaf surface. There are short thorns on the leaf edge and the leaf keel .

The slender inflorescence reaches a length of up to 30 centimeters and consists of 15 to 20 loosely arranged, white flowers .

Systematics and distribution

Haworthia monticola is common in the South African provinces of the Western Cape and Eastern Cape .

The first description by Henry Georges Fourcade was published in 1937. Synonyms are Haworthia chloracantha var. Monticola (Fourc.) Halda (1997) and Haworthia divergens M.B.Bayer (1976).

A distinction is made between the following varieties :

  • Haworthia monticola var. Monticola
  • Haworthia monticola var. Asema M.B.Bayer
