Martin W. Littleton
Martin Wiley Littleton (born January 12, 1872 in Kingston , Tennessee , † December 19, 1934 in Mineola , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1911 and 1913 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Martin Littleton was born near Kingston about six and a half years after the end of the Civil War and spent the first few years there. His family then moved to Texas in 1881 , where they settled in Dallas . He attended community schools there. He then studied law and began practicing in Dallas in 1891 after receiving his license to practice law. Between 1893 and 1896 he was a prosecuting attorney in Dallas County . Last year he moved to New York City where he continued to practice law. Between 1900 and 1904 he was a district attorney in Kings County .
Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . In 1904 he participated as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention . He was the borough president of Brooklyn in 1904 and 1905 . In the 1910 congressional elections , Littleton was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of New York , where he succeeded Republican William W. Cocks on March 4, 1911 . Since he refused to run again in 1912 , he left the Congress after March 3, 1913 . He then resumed his practice as a lawyer. In the following time he lived first in New York City and then in Mineola, where he died on December 19, 1934. His body was interred in the Littletons family mausoleum in Woodlawn Cemetery , New York City.
