George H. Lindsay

George Henry Lindsay (born January 7, 1837 in New York City , † May 25, 1916 in Brooklyn , New York ) was an American politician . Between 1901 and 1913 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George Henry Lindsay was born in New York City about nine years before the outbreak of the Mexican-American War . His family moved to the then independent city of Brooklyn in 1843, where he attended public schools. He then worked in the real estate and investment business. Between 1882 and 1886 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . He then worked as a coroner in Kings County between 1886 and 1892 . In 1898 he was appointed Assistant Tax Commissioner . He participated in various national and state conventions. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the congressional elections of 1900 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of New York , where he succeeded John J. Fitzgerald on March 4, 1901 . He was re-elected five times in a row. Since he on a run again in 1912 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1913 Congress of.

He then retired from the political scene and lived in Brooklyn until his death on May 25, 1916. His body was buried in Evergreen Cemetery . Congressman George W. Lindsay was his son and Congressman Stephen A. Rudd was his son-in-law.
