William Starr Miller I. (born August 22, 1793 in Wintonbury (now Bloomfield ), Connecticut , † November 9, 1854 in New York City ) was an American politician . Between 1845 and 1847 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Starr Miller I was born in Wintonbury about ten years after the end of the Revolutionary War . He enjoyed a good education. In 1845 he was a member of the Board of Aldermen of New York City. Politically, he was a member of the American Party . In the congressional election of 1844 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the third constituency of New York , where he succeeded Jonas P. Phoenix on March 4, 1845 . He suffered in 1846 during his re-election bid a defeat and resigned after March 3 1847 the Congressout. He died in New York City on November 9, 1854 and was buried in Green-Wood Cemetery , Brooklyn . Two years after his death, his nephew, William Starr Miller II, was born, who was named after him.
