James Guyon Junior

James Guyon junior (born December 24, 1778 in Richmond , New York , † March 9, 1846 there ) was an American officer and politician . Between 1820 and 1821 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Guyon was born and raised in Richmond during the Revolutionary War . He attended the local schools. Then he worked as a farmer. He also owned and operated a haberdashery and a tavern . Guyon also served in the New York Militia . In 1807 he was appointed captain in the second squadron of the first cavalry division . A promotion to major took place in 1814 and another to colonel in 1819 with command of the first regiment of mounted artillery . He also pursued a political career. He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1812 and 1813 . During this time he joined the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson . In the congressional elections of 1818 , Ebenezer Sage was re-elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of New York , where he succeeded George Townsend on March 4, 1819 . However, Guyon was able to successfully challenge his election on January 14, 1820 on the basis of an incorrect registration. Since he renounced his candidacy in 1820, he left the Congress after March 3, 1821 . Afterwards he worked as a farmer again and devoted himself to his business. He died in Richmond on March 9, 1846, and was buried in the Church of St. Andrew's cemetery.

His parents were Susannah and James Guyon (* 1746). He was married three times, first to Ann Bedell, then to Ann Perine and finally to Martha Seguine. The first marriage resulted in a daughter. The following marriages remained childless.
