Frederick William Lord
Frederick William Lord (born December 11, 1800 in Lyme , Connecticut , † May 24, 1860 in New York City ) was an American doctor and politician . Between 1847 and 1849 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Frederick Lord was born and raised in Lyme in the early 19th century . He attended Lyme Academy and graduated from Yale College in 1821 . Then he worked for two years as a professor of mathematics at Washington College in Chestertown ( Maryland ) and, after a change for three years at an Academy in Baltimore . He studied medicine in Baltimore and then graduated from Yale College in medicine in 1828. He then began to practice in Sag Harbor, New York, and did this for 15 years.
Lord took as a delegate at the 1840 Whig National Convention in Harrisburg ( Pennsylvania part). Then in 1846 he moved to Greenport, New York, where he went into farming. He grew fruit and ornamental trees. His political affiliation switched to the Democratic Party . In the 1846 congressional election , Lord was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the first constituency of New York , where he succeeded John W. Lawrence on March 4, 1847 . Since he refused to run again in 1848 , he left the Congress after March 3, 1849 . He resumed his previous job in Greeport. In his candidacies in 1854 and 1856 for the US House of Representatives, he suffered defeat on both occasions. He was to attend the Republican National Convention in Chicago as a delegate . However, he fell ill on the way on the Massachusetts steamship and died on May 24, 1860 in New York City. His body was interred in East Hampton Cemetery in East Hampton .
