Elisabeth Vavra

Elisabeth Vavra (* in Vienna ) is an Austrian art historian and exhibition curator .

Life

She studied art history and archeology at the University of Vienna and carried out research on material culture, image interpretation and iconography at the Institute for Reality Studies of the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Age . As a curator and advisor in numerous cultural studies exhibitions, she presents people's lives in the past from an everyday and women's history perspective. Since the 1980s, she has been exhibition curator at various Lower Austrian, Upper Austrian and Bavarian state exhibitions. Vavra was appointed director of the Institute for Reality Studies of the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Era in 2003 and held a management position at the Austrian Academy of Sciences until 2012 . She is the scientific director of the history department at the Lower Austrian State Museum and chair of the Lower Austrian Cultural Senate.
